Is there a free cricket team management app?

Last updated 2 November 2026

Yes, there are free ones, and CricketRight isn't one of them. We'd rather be upfront about that. What we can tell you is what you get for the money, and why plenty of clubs find a free app only covers part of the job.

What CricketRight does for a club

CricketRight is built around one weekly job: getting from "who can play?" to a published team sheet without a night on the phone.

  • Captains pick from a confirmed pool. Availability windows open and lock on your club's timings. Players answer Yes or No, with no "maybe". When the window locks, the captain picks from who's actually confirmed, and late replies don't rewrite the list mid-pick.
  • Senior sides pick in order. With Captain's Pick, when several senior teams play on the same day, higher teams pick first and the rest wait their turn.
  • Fairness First for juniors. It recommends a fair side from availability and each child's playing opportunities across the season, so the coach isn't working out from memory who was due a game. The coach can publish it, change it or pick freely. Nothing goes out until the coach says so.
  • Junior age rules. Set up age groups and eligibility once, including who can play up or down.
  • Parents reply for juniors. Parents answer availability for their child and see the team sheet, so contact about junior cricket goes through parents.
  • Contact details stay hidden. Phone numbers and email addresses stay with club staff. Parents and players don't see each other's contact details.
  • One price per club, never per player. You pay by the number of active teams: £9 a month for up to 3, £19 for up to 10, or £29 for unlimited. Every feature is on every plan, and players, parents and coaches are unlimited.
  • Try it properly first. There's a 30-day free trial, so you can run real fixtures through it before paying. A card is needed to start, and if you cancel before day 30 you won't be charged.

The free options, briefly

These are fair summaries of what each provider says on its own site as at November 2026. Check their sites for the latest details.

One thing worth knowing first: Spond, Pitchero and TeamSnap are built for lots of different sports, and cricket is one of many. CricketRight is made only for cricket clubs. That's all we do: availability for every fixture, selection across your senior XIs, and junior age groups and eligibility set up the way cricket actually works.

  • Play-Cricket (ECB). Free. Club administrators can record availability, select a team, publish it and email the selected players (Play-Cricket help).
  • Spond. No subscription fee; it charges 2.5% + 20p per payment collected in the UK (Spond help centre).
  • Heja. A free, ad-supported plan with a schedule, RSVP availability and team messaging (Heja pricing).
  • Pitchero Free. Free for one team, with third-party advertising and no payment processing (Pitchero pricing).
  • TeamSnap. "$0 to start" for single teams, with availability tracking as a paid upgrade (TeamSnap pricing).
  • WhatsApp and a spreadsheet. Free and familiar. It works until several teams are picking from the same players.

If one of these already does what your club needs, use it. If you're still chasing replies on a Thursday night, or trying to keep junior game time fair across a season, have a look at CricketRight.
